A wonderful and unusual painted locket pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in sterling silver topped 14kt yellow gold, this oval shaped?piece features?the portrait of a beautiful woman at its center surrounded by a diamond encrusted border. The image is hand painted on porcelain and depicts a?young woman wearing a lovely pearl necklace and dangling earrings. Surrounding the glass-covered portrait is a vibrant red enamel border which is detailed with interspersed old Mine Cut diamonds resting in a textured collet setting. A delicate scalloped edge lined with old Rose Cut diamonds curves its way around the enameled frame, creating a wonderful and radiant?see-through design.?On the back of the locket is?a removable glass covered space, a perfect place for a treasured keepsake or photograph.?The?pendant hangs from a diamond encrusted bail and would?look lovely?dangling?from a favorite chain.?An impressive and artistic?Victorian piece, it would make a unique addition to any collection!
Measurements: The pendant locket hangs approximately 2" long (including the bail), and measures about 1 1/2" wide and 1/8" thick. The glass covered space on the back measures approximately 1 1/8" tall and 7/8" wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver or gold setting and the diamonds are all secure and intact.The removable glass frame on the back and the bail are secure and in good working order. The glass?surface reveals the slightest chip on the edge near the bottom, however is not noticeable when worn.
