A wonderful equestrian-inspired compilation piece from the Edwardian?era!?A 14kt yellow gold pocket watch by J.E. Caldwell & Co. (ca1915) hangs from a late Victorian horseshoe pin (ca1910). The large, 3-dimensional pin is made of 15kt rose gold (indicating English origin) and features 7 raised platinum studs on the surface depicting?nails (always 7 for good luck!). Two strands of rose gold chain hang from the inside of the horseshoe and meet at a 14kt watch swivel clasp in the center, from which the removable pocket watch is hung. A gold bar pin on the back of the horseshoe allows it to be easily fastened to a favorite garment. The face of the pocket watch reads "J.E. CALDWELL & CO." and has black ticks and hands above a gold background. The winder can be found at the top below the handle. A small tab at the base of the watch latches the front of the watch for security. The back of the piece can be opened at the seam,?allowing access to the watch movement inside.?The numbers "18120584" are stamped within the movement itself, while the gold encasement bears multiple hallmarks inside. Included among them are "PAT. MAY 10 1915" "DUBOIS WC. CO." "14K" "0.585 FINE GUARANTEED" "72283" and a few small hand-etched markings. The rose and yellow gold combination and platinum accents give this design?a subtle, yet lovely?mixed metals appearance. A very striking piece, it is perfect for a collector and would appeal to the equestrian enthusiast!
